On the basis of Kahn and Cannells model of the interview process and the theoretical-utilitarian orientation hypotheses by Phillips, the concept of the communication theory from F. Meier is critized. His concept deals with the problem of social desirability reaction and emphasizes the necessity to analyse the special character of the interview situation under relevant theoretical points of view. It becomes obvious that, based on the theory of reasoned action and the theory of instruments, the concept of the communication theory neglects relevant parts of the interview situation and represents a deficient theoretical analysis of the problem of social desirabiblity reaction.

Ausgehend von Kahn und Cannells Modell des interview-Prozesses und der nutzentheoretischen Orientierungshypothese von Phillips wird das kommunikationstheoretische Konzept von F. Meier kritisiert. Sein Konzept beschäftigt sich mit der Problematik sozial erwünschten Antwortverhaltens und betont die Notwendigkeit, die Situationsspezifizität eines Befragungsprozesses unter theoretisch relevanten Gesichtspunkten zu analysieren. Unter handlungstheoretischen und instrumententheoretischen Gesichtspunkten läßt sich zeigen, daß das kommunikationstheoretische Konzept wesentliche Merkmale der Befragungssituation vernachlässigt und eine mangelnde theoretische Analyse des Problems sozial erwünschten Antwortverhaltens darstellt.
