Abstract
This handbook entry explains Robert Musil's notion of 'the other condition' that is of utmost importance for his novel "The Man Without Qualities" (1930-1952). The 'other condition' transcends everyday reality. It does not only have religious, but also artistic and ethical implications. The other condition may be characterised especially by a different experience of time.
